Artificial intelligence is evolving fast—and “AI agents” are the next wave. Unlike basic chatbots, agents can take action: gathering information, making decisions, and completing multi-step tasks with minimal human oversight.

But what does this actually mean for a millwork shop or architectural woodworking business? Join us for a practical introduction to AI agents, what they can (and can’t) do today, and where they’re headed. Our panel includes a millwork shop principal, and two IT consultants who build custom AI agent solutions for small and medium businesses, to share real-world examples and answer your questions.

Whether you’re curious, skeptical, or already experimenting, this session will help you cut through the hype and understand what’s worth paying attention to.

MODERATER
Rich grew up in the architectural woodworking industry — his father founded Bergan in 1976, and he joined the company in 2008 after three years in construction management. From day one, he’s operated with a simple premise: there’s always a better way to do things. That mindset led him to build his own software solutions for the business — from custom ERP systems to bid management tools — teaching himself to code along the way. He’s seen firsthand what works, what breaks, and where technology actually saves time versus where it just adds complexity.

Rich currently serves as outgoing president of the AWI New England Chapter and sits on the Connecticut Building Congress board. He’s moderating today’s discussion to help connect the practical realities of running a shop with the possibilities of what AI agents can do when implemented the right way.

PANELIST
Justin spent 20 years building an IT services business, where he worked hands-on with cabinet and millwork shops across North Texas — managing their technology, solving their day-to-day operational headaches, and watching firsthand how these businesses run from the inside.

That experience gave him a front-row seat to the challenges shop owners face: tight margins, growing complexity, and never enough hours in the day. In 2025, he founded PathOpt to help trades businesses put AI to work in practical ways — not hype, but real solutions that give owners their time back, sharpen their margins, and keep their teams running smooth.
